Tomorrow is the Day!

I know it's a little silly, but I think you will understand - I get super excited for National Scrapbooking Day.  Some years, life gets in the way and I can barely squeeze in anytime for challenges - and I get totally bummed out.  But this year, I've mostly cleared the weekend (and my desk), so I am ready to go. 

I've been keeping a list of events so that I would have lots of challenges to keep me inspired and motivated this weekend.  Here are some of the places I will be playing (just in case you don't have your own list.)

PAPER ISSUES

 

Paper Issues is hosting challenges all day in their closed Facebook group - Paper Issues Friends and Fans.  Their challenges are always fun, the chatter on Facebook is hilarious and supportive and the giveaways are awesome.  If you aren't a member of the group, you can ask to join and they respond really quickly.

CITRUS TWIST KITS

Citrus Twist Kits offered weekly deals for the past several weeks as part of their NSD celebrations. Earlier this week, they hosted an instagram hop with their design team.  Each stop includes a challenge, but you don't have to enter the challenges to be entered in the drawing to win a gift certificate.

STUDIO CALICO

Studio Calico is also hosting challenges all day tomorrow.  Members of the Creative Team will be posting challenges in their member forum all day.  They also have an instagram giveaway scheduled for midday Saturday.  Finally, they have a free printable on their blog and are offering 30% off an order from the shop with the code SCNSD16.

HIP KIT CLUB

Hip Kit Club is hosting challenges Saturday and Sunday in their closed Facebook group (Hip Kit Club Member Forum).  They are also planning some games - I love their kits and exclusive products (I really want to subscribe) and am hoping to win some goodies.  They also mention "other surprises" and I am a total sucker for surprises.  This is another group you may want to join today.

CLIQUE KITS

Clique Kits is hosting two events - the first is a YouTube hop.

The You Tube Hop is on the Clique Kits channel and starts this morning (8 CDT).  It sounds like a great way to get inspired for the weekend.

Clique Kits is also hosting an NSD crop with challenges to keep you scrapping.

 

Clique Kits is offering challenges and prizes on Friday and Saturday.  (I really want to stay home and play this morning.)  If you are looking for their event, their Facebook Group is called "The Clique."

There are so many more places to participate in NSD events.  Manufacturers often have hops and/or giveaways too.  I'm reluctantly off to work, but will start my celebrations this evening.  If I've missed an NSD event that sound fun, please share in the comments.  I need all the inspiration I can get!

Trying New Things - Silkscreen

Did you have a chance to play this week in celebration of National Scrapbook Day?  I love all the challenges that get posted around the world - they tend to push me out of my comfort zone so that I try new things (or at least experiment with products and techniques I rarely use.  Silkscreens are a great example.

I have a few silkscreens - mostly from Studio Calico kits - but I rarely use them.  I love the thought of them and I love the look you get, but I'm not very confident with them.  And I rarely want to take time to let a project dry.

But this weekend, I got those babies out - twice.  I use done with acrylic paints here and it was super easy.  I figured out approximately where I was going to put my photo and then laid the silkscreen down next to it.  I put little dabs of color theory blush crush and 24K paint on the silkscreen and then smeared it around so the colors blended and I had a random mix of pink and gold.  The only problem I had was that my silkscreen was small and I had to reapply it several times to cover enough of the background for the look I wanted.

The second time I got out my silkscreens, I used them with watercolors. I used a small piece of watercolor paper and adhered my silk screen.  I then applied different yellow, orange and pink colors across the silkscreen to create a title block for a simple grid layout.

Oh - and those clouds - a stencil with gesso.  And I painted that veneer butterfly.  I was using those supplies.  Now the trick is to keep the momentum going.

The Best Day of the Year

I have some Glitz washi to share and an assortment of sequins (I have to admit that my sequin collection has grown to an embarrassing size, but I'm willing to share. 

I told a friend that National Scrapbook Day was the best day of the year - better even than Christmas.  She doesn't scrap so she thought I was nuts.  But you know what I mean.

There are so many fun challenges, great deals on the newest supplies and lots of chances to win prizes that add to your stash.  It really is the best day of the year!

And this year I want to get in the spirit in a big way.  Of course, I will be doing challenges as fast as I can - I've got lots of pictures and paper to play with.  But I want to be one of the people giving a prize for NSD for a change.  I've won so many great things over the past several months - and its time to give back. 

So I am going to give a couple of my favorite things to play with to one lucky follower who leaves a comment.
